Universities in a growing number of study destinations are expanding Foundation programs designed for international applicants who need additional academic preparation before beginning a bachelor’s degree. These programs help students adapt to a new education system, strengthen their academic English, and prepare for subjects related to their future degree. Depending on the chosen pathway, students may study mathematics, economics, science, business, information technology, and other subjects.Foundation programs can be particularly useful for applicants whose secondary-school qualifications do not fully meet the requirements for direct undergraduate admission. After successfully completing the program, students may in some cases progress to the first year of a related bachelor’s degree. The expansion of preparatory programs is creating more pathways into international higher education and helping students adjust more confidently to the academic expectations of studying abroad.
